Hi there, I’m Purav, the founder of sportsheim. As a true Mumbaikar, cricket has always been a huge part of my life. I remember playing cricket on the streets, in gullies, on maidans, and for my school and university teams. As a young child, all I wanted was to find my way to the cricket ground and keep playing until the dawn. Those were the days when buying cricketing gear was a luxury for us. We friends had to contribute to get our hands on the gear we would use for the season. I can still remember the feeling of excitement and pride I felt when we entered a neighborhood sports store to buy our cricketing gear.
As a child, I subconsciously always imagined owning a sports store someday. I was fascinated by the endless options that were available in sports stores, and I dreamt of bringing those options to cricket lovers like myself. As time went by, studies and making a corporate career took precedence in my life. I moved to Germany in 2009, played cricket for the FNCC club in Freiburg during my studies, and eventually settled in Fürth after moving cities and countries. I resumed my cricketing hobby after a spell of injury, and that’s when I realized how much I had missed the sport that was such an integral part of my life.
In 2022, when I visited my family, my father-in-law took me to one of his retail sports outlets in the heart of Mumbai that he has been running for over 20 years under the brand Total – Sports & Fitness. He showed me some new collections of cricket bats that he had received, and I was completely blown away by the quality and the range of products that were on offer. I knew that I had found my calling. That’s when the idea of sportsheim was born. The purpose of my store is to bring original and quality cricket products to Europe. As cricket enthusiasts myself, I know how important it is to have the right gear to enhance your performance and take the game to the next level.
